Paris Chronicles Day 2, Part 2
We walk with Monica, the reporter from “Reforma” toward the Arc de Triomphe. As we walk, we tell her about how we watched the Telenovela La Fea Mas Bella on the internet, because they took it off the air in Spain. She couldn’t believe it.
We arrive at the bridge. What a sight it is, made of wrought iron with wooden walkways. As if that isn’t enough, it is a brilliant sunny day. They are all set up to film the scene where Sebastian walks across the bridge. Jaime is wearing jeans with a finely striped white shirt. Meanwhile, we kept busy talking to Monica and taking pictures of everybody.
Suddenly, our role as rookie paparazzi is interrupted. It’s Jaime yelling, “Come over here, you’re going to be extras.” I don’t have to tell you, we lose no time complying with the orders of our President. His word is law, but first we have to check to make sure we’re still breathing. They could have given us a little notice! We certainly would have fixed ourselves up a little; we were tired and sleep deprived, and looked it!
When we get to where they’re filming, Rene tells us to walk across behind Jaime. I said, laughing, “Is that all?” Rene tells us we can’t look at Jaime or the camera. Not looking at Jaime is the hardest part, but we do the scene like the professionals we are. We film another scene where we are leaning on the side rails, talking, while pleasure boats navigate the Seine.
Once our professional film debut comes to an end, we stay around for a while, joking and laughing with Gaby and Jaime. Gaby is very nice to us; I think she is glad to have some girls around. She had been spending so much time with all guys.
We leave for the next location, the Bishop’s Bridge, next to Notre Dame. It’s funny, but before we leave Jaime asks us, “Are you sure you’re coming? OK, we’ll see you there.” He just isn’t sure yet that the four intrepid Spanish girls can follow him all over Paris.
We ride on our favorite form of public transport, the metro, with our friend Monica, the reporter from “Reforma.” This is the last location she’ll cover. On the way, we tell her about things Jaime has done in the past. We fill her in on our fan club, the things we love about Jaime, and the phenomenal success of La Fea Mas Bella.
We get to the Bishop’s Bridge, which is right next to Notre Dame and is absolutely beautiful. The reporter from “OK” is there taking more pictures. The production team is having some difficulty filming there. While we wait, we joke around with Jaime some more, this is getting to be as bad as La Oreja. Finally, they film Sebastian crossing the bridge, with Notre Dame in the background. Then, Alexa is crossing the same bridge, but they don’t meet.
Patri asks me to go with her to buy batteries, because she needs an interpreter. When we get there, I have to laugh; all the stores are named Esmeralda, just like me. I guess it’s to be expected, being so close to the site of Victor Hugo’s legendary Hunchback of Notre Dame. According to his novel, the hunchback was in love with Esmeralda. We hurry back to find Jaime waiting with Fatima and Eva, they had told him we were in urgent need of batteries for our camera. I just had to say, “Sorry, but I was visiting all my holdings, everything around here is called Esmeralda.” Smiling, Jaime says, “I didn’t know you were so wealthy.” I answer, “Me either! If I knew I had so much property here, I sure wouldn’t be living as a poor soul in Spain - I’d live here.”
We look around trying to find the production team. Jaime says, “We’ve lost the director.” I’m thinking that all this joking around can’t be good.
